About Dubai

Dubai sits on the Arabian Gulf and packs a lot into a short holiday. The Burj Khalifa observation deck, the Dubai Mall and the Dubai Aquarium are usually the first day. Palm Jumeirah and the Marina are worth an evening on their own. Flights from India are short, English is spoken everywhere and Indian food is easy to find, which makes it a comfortable first trip abroad.

The older side of the city is still there. Al Fahidi has wind-tower houses and narrow lanes, the spice and gold souks are across the creek, and a dhow cruise on Dubai Creek is an easy way to see both banks. Out of town, a desert safari gives you dune bashing, camel rides and a barbecue dinner under the stars. Abu Dhabi, with the Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, is a comfortable day trip.

We plan the trip around your dates and your group size. Tell us when you want to travel and our team sends you a plan and a quotation. Nothing is booked until you approve it.

Best places to see

  • Burj KhalifaThe tallest building in the world, with viewing decks on the 124th and 148th floors. Sunset slots sell out first, so we book them well ahead.
  • The Dubai Mall and FountainShopping, the aquarium and an ice rink under one roof, with the fountain show outside every half hour after dark.
  • Desert safariLate afternoon dune bashing in a four wheel drive, camel rides, henna and a barbecue dinner with live shows. Dress light and skip a heavy lunch.
  • Palm Jumeirah and AtlantisA man made island with the Atlantis resort, The View observation deck and the Aquaventure water park. Best seen in the evening.
  • Dubai Marina and JBRHigh rise towers around a waterfront promenade. A marina dhow dinner cruise or a walk along The Beach at JBR fills an evening well.
  • Al Fahidi and the souksRestored wind tower houses, small museums, then an abra boat across the creek to the spice and gold souks. Go in the morning while it is cool.
  • Miracle Garden and Global VillageSeasonal attractions that open roughly from October to April. Both suit families and need a half day each.
  • Abu Dhabi day tripSheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, the Presidential Palace at Qasr Al Watan and optionally Ferrari World, about a ninety minute drive each way.

Best season

November to March is pleasant and is the season for outdoor attractions, the desert and the beaches. April to September is very hot, though the malls, indoor parks and aquariums run all year and hotel rates are lower. Ramadan dates change each year and affect restaurant timings, so we plan around them.

Good to know

  • Indians need a tourist visa arranged before travel, and our team handles the e-visa application. If you hold a valid United States visa or a United Kingdom or Schengen residence permit, a visa on arrival may apply instead.
  • The currency is the UAE dirham. Cards are accepted almost everywhere, and exchange counters in the malls give better rates than the airport.
  • A tourist SIM with data is handed out free at the airport by the local operators, and paid top up plans are easy to add.
  • Dress is relaxed at hotels and beaches, but cover shoulders and knees in malls, mosques and public areas. Women need a headscarf inside the Grand Mosque.
  • Alcohol is served only in licensed hotels and restaurants. Public drinking and rude behaviour carry real fines.
  • The Metro is clean and cheap for straight line trips, but taxis make more sense with luggage or a group.
  • Vegetarian, Jain and halal food are all easy to find, and Indian restaurants are everywhere.
